Do you have migraine with aura? Participate on the contest by sending drawings, paintings, or digital art showing realistic results of your visual aura of migraine.

If you have a migraine with aura, you can participate!

If you have artistic skills, you can also participate by asking somebody who has a visual aura of migraine to tell you what they see!

What is a migraine aura?

Migraine Aura is a disturbance of visual perception, that happens most of the time with twinkling lights, zigzag lines, blurred vision, temporary loss of half of the visual field, small colored or white dots with wavelengths or flickering, and etc.

It occurs before the start of a migraine (or during), in a gradual way, thus the aura indicates the appearing of migraine.

It lasts 5 minutes to 1 hour and is completely reversible.

5% of the population has migraine with aura, and 20% of migraine sufferers have migraines with aura.

We invite people with migraine with aura to apply on the Art Contest and show their realistic visual aura of migraine!

REGULATION

ABRACES, Brazilian Association of Cluster Headaches and Migraines invites people who have migraine with aura to participate in the Art Contest with the theme “AURA OF MIGRAINE”. There are going to have awards for 2 categories (painting / drawing and digital art). The winners will exhibit their works at the XXXIII Brazilian Headache Congress and XIV Orofacial Pain Congress from October 24th, 2019, in São Paulo, at the booth of ABRACES, Brazilian Association of Headache in Migraines.

GOALS

The “AURA OF MIGRAINE” Art Contest aims to have migraine sufferers with aura express through art, painting, drawing and digital art, realistically their visual aura of migraine, to raise awareness and seek appropriate treatment. It aims to be an education and awareness action on migraine aura for the general public through art. It also will aware the neurologists about the importance of diagnostic assessment of migraine aura.

CONSTRUCTION

CATEGORIES:

1. Painting / Drawing:

Realistic and free style works (oil paint, tempera, acrylic, watercolor, collage, etc.) on canvas or paper. UPLOAD THE PICTURE OF YOUR WORK ON REGISTRATION 

2. Virtual Art:

Realistically styled works entirely performed by computer or mobile applications. UPLOAD THE PICTURE OF YOUR WORK IN REGISTRATION

Migraine Aura -

Migraine Aura is a disturbance of visual perception, that happens most of the time with twinkling lights, zigzag lines, blurred vision, temporary loss of half of the visual field, small colored or white dots with wavelengths or flickering, and etc. It can also be sensory (sharp and needled or numbness of the face, hands or arms) or speech alteration, but that is not the subject of this art contest. It occurs before the start of a migraine (or during), in a gradual way, thus the aura indicates the appearing of migraine. It lasts 5 minutes to 1 hour and is completely reversible. 5% of the population has migraine with aura, and 20% of migraine sufferers have migraines with aura.

EXHIBITION OF PRIZES

The nine award-winning artists selected by the judging committee will receive the awards and will exhibit their works at the booth of ABRACES, Brazilian Headache and Migraine Association, at the XXXIII Brazilian Headache Congress and XIV Orofacial Pain Congress from October 24th, 2019, in São Paulo, until the date and time indicated by telephone and email. They will have their works printed to become an illustrative material, that will be delivered to neurologists, specialized in headache.
